We are committed to stem the growing burden of cervical cancer among women in Asia
The Asia-Pacific Women’s Cancer Coalition (APAC WCC) was founded in 2023 as a diverse group of stakeholders committed to stem the growing burden of cervical cancer among women in the region. In particular, the Coalition focuses on identifying opportunities and addressing the gaps to support countries in achieving their national targets for cancer prevention and control, through catalytic public and private partnerships and the sharing of best practices for policy interventions, especially related to management.
The members of the APAC WCC call on Asia-Pacific nations to intensify efforts to reduce the burden of cervical cancer through improved prevention, early detection and management. The cancer burden can be lessened via concerted action to the lasting benefit and prosperity of the people of the Asia-Pacific region.
Our priorities guide the work of an emerging, diverse coalition of voices and actors that will work to promote implementation of innovative technologies to counteract cervical cancer burden at the national and regional level. They are aligned with the priorities set by the World Health Organization in its cancer initiatives, namely reducing the incidence, morbidity and mortality of cervical cancer through improved approaches to:
-
Prevention
Implement effective vaccination and screening programs for cervical cancer, along with health promotion.
-
Management
Develop cost-effective and equitable health care innovations for management of cervical cancer
-
Advocacy
Promote the implementation of the principles and strategies set out in the WHO’s cancer initiatives at the domestic level, ensuring that national action plans are integrated within national cancer policies, while tying together a cohesive regional strategy serving the APAC region.
The Coalition seeks to promote domestic implementation of the principles and strategies set out in the WHO’s cancer initiatives. The Coalition also seeks to ensure that domestic action plans developed by Asia-Pacific nations are created and implemented within an overarching and integrated national cancer policy, in accordance with the WHO’s guidance. Finally, the Coalition advocates for governments and global health donors to increase financial resources for prevention and treatment of cervical cancer.
